Rob is a psychological suspense novelist who writes in a claustrophobic style. His stories take place in one main location. In doing so, they have an unimpeded, raw vantage point from which extraneous storytelling trappings are scrapped away, leaving only the naked truth.
Rob has an enormous dislike for sameness and a never-ending desire to do things differently, the quintessential soul of writing, the finely woven fabric that ignites emotions and charges impulses...defining who and what we are during our short and fragile existence.
Growing up, Rob knew he loved the arts and self-expression. But like most young people, he wasn't sure how to apply it or what he wanted to be. His first job was as a radio announcer at WEHH-FM in Horseheads, New York.
While attending the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University from 1967 to 1969, he was a weekend news gatherer for WCBS NEWSRADIO 88 in Manhattan. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, he was a sales manager at WHEC-TV, a CBS affiliate owned by Gannett Newspapers in Rochester, New York. In 1980, Gannett devested their complement of seven radio and seven television stations, partially funding the creation of the USA TODAY newspaper. And Rob was out of a job.
Driven further, Rob founded and was the CEO of KIRCHER & ASSOCIATES, INC., a full-service international marketing, advertising and public relations firm with offices in Rochester, New York; Greenville, North Carolina; and Panama City, Republic of Panama. The firm represented well-known brands in the appliance, soft drink, wine, and telecommunication businesses. While living in Panama, Rob was a columnist at La Estrella de Panamá, the oldest daily newspaper in Panama, and penned the column: Through My American Eyes.
Shifting gears, Rob’s love of video and film led to his producing and hosting television reality programs and three syndicated television food show series.
During this period, Rob was the screenwriter and co-producer of the feature film One Evening, which fueled his current interest in writing psychological suspense novels.
When asked who his favorite authors were in an interview, he replied,
“Letter writers.”
